Outdoor Background & Experience
Although not as rugged as some of the locales Dave has been to, northeast Wisconsin offers plenty of opportunity to get out in nature and explore. Local favorites include hiking/camping at High Cliff State Park, hiking/wildlife viewing at Bubolz Nature Center, and family walks along the Fox River. Wisconsin, in general, is an outdoorsman's paradise, and Dave takes full advantage of the Wisconsin seasons and the diverse activities that come along with them.
Dave was fortunate enough to have a family that valued spending time together on summer road trips and seeing the country. That, along with traveling internationally as a kid, sparked an interest in seeing the world we live in and having an experience. Along with the Outdoor Union trips, some of the more memorable trips that have shaped Dave's love for the outdoors include:
Family Vacations
- Road trip to the southeast US that included stops at Mammoth Cave in Kentucky and the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee
- Road trip west to see the Badlands and Black Hills of South Dakota
- Trip to Utah and Arizona to explore Bryce and Zion National Parks along with the Grand Canyon and Lake Powell
- Trip to northern California with drives along the Pacific coast near San Francisco and a few days spent hiking/biking around Lake Tahoe
Trips for Pleasure
- Summiting Diamond Head on Oahu, Hawaii and light hiking around Volcanoes NP on the Big Island
- Skiing some of Colorado's top ski areas (Breckenridge, Keystone, and Vail). Also snowshoed in the mountains near Frisco, Colorado
- Skiing Montana's Big Sky Resort along with Bridger Bowl near Bozeman. Side trip included cross-country skiing in Yellowstone NP
- Some light hiking near Snohomish, Washington
- A second stint skiing Colorado's Rocky Mountains (Breckenridge and Beaver Creek). Also hiked the Flat Irons near Boulder and some of the trails at Red Rocks on this trip
- Whitewater rafting the Ocoee River in Tennessee
- Third stint in Colorado, this time in the summer. Included mountain biking in Aspen-Snowmass and summiting one of Colorado's fourteeners, Mt. Huron, in the Sawatch Mountain Range near Leadville (pictured above). Also did a side trip to the Maroon Bells
International
- Some light hiking in the Dolomite Mountains near Moena, Italy
- Snorkeling in the Bahamas
- Off-road Jeep exploration and shipwreck snorkeling in Aruba
- Ziplining, horseback riding, deep-sea fishing, and snorkeling in Costa Rica
Dave is married and has two young sons. His oldest already loves camping and being outside. Professionally, he manages portfolio investments for a large private bank and is working towards his CFA designation. Along with being an avid sports fan (he's especially passionate about the Green Bay Packers), Dave is also a home brewer, loves grilling out, music, and spending time with his family and friends. He is an alumni of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he majored in business administration and minored in psychology. He spent two seasons playing on the football team and another two seasons playing on the lacrosse team.
